La Lancha – Confessions on a wave in the summer

Surfing is an activity that encourages many to live that experience and others to want it to repeat always. It is an experience that fills you with joy, content, satisfaction, excitement and adrenaline. It’s an unforgettable moment from its beginning to its end.

The white wax on the board, its weight under your arm, all this indicates that you are ready to surf. But wait a minute… what waves? Which beach? Sayulita? La Lancha? They’re both fabulous, so you decide.

This time we are going to talk about La Lancha:

La Lancha BeachThe journey begins, the heat and humidity can be felt already and what you want is to get to the water soon. You start the walk to the beach: Mangroves in sight, logs, rocks, insects playing, fallen leaves, green leaves, wind, smiles, nerves, unknown people and friends too, it is a magical moment that begins to come true.

At last you arrive, your feet touch and feel the sand and the first thing you see is the deep blue of the sea and you observe the waves: What is there? Left or right? The right-hand wave is soft, gentle and long while the left-hand wave is fast and challenging. Then you wait and breathe. And you decide: it’s time to get in the water.
Your fingers feel the softness and freshness of the water and you start to move as if you were a fish in the water, paddling on until you reach the point where the waves begin to break. At that moment your heart beats hard and fast, you decide to state calm and patient so you can try to catch a nice wave.

You feel the moment, you see the wave that you have been waiting for and you think : it’s mine, it’s mine; I’m at the right spot, I’m in the moment and you start padding to pick up speed so that the wave pushes you. You push up with your arms, lift your chest and legs, tilt your weight and start the best moment: the ride. You do this repeatedly. It’s different, fun and challenging. You end up exhausted but happy, cheerful and satisfied.

You repeat the experience over and over again and realize that surfing is not only a sport, it is a lifestyle, a way of connecting with nature, of fostering respect and passion for life.

Cheer up and live the experience at La Lancha beach!

Ecosistemas en La Lancha, Nayarit

Cocodrilos y Manglares

Crocodile on the beach, ecosystem in La Lancha
By Wildmex

Ecosystems in La Lancha, Nayarit

Cocodriles and Mangrove

Mangrove swamps, Ecosystems in La LanchaMangrove swamps are unique ecological communities that link freshwater and oceanic ecosystems and host a rich diversity of animal species. A mangrove commonly refers to two different things: a tidal swamp ecosystem found in tropical deltas, estuaries, lagoons or islands, and the characteristic tree species populating this ecosystem (with roots that have a complex salt filtration system and ability to adapt to harsh conditions). Its purpose (in the Ecosystems in La Lancha beach for example) is to filter, protect, and maintain the quality of its natural habitat.

In Mexico, there are four types of mangroves depending on their root systems and functions: Red, White, Black, and Zaragoza o Botoncillo, of which some tolerate up to 70ups. Each one provides different natural and commercial resources.

Mangroves develop important ecosystem functions. Perhaps the most important role of mangroves is that they protect vulnerable coastlines from flooding. They hold soil together and prevent coastal erosion as well as shield inland areas during storms to minimize destructive impact. They biologically filter the quality of water creating opportunity for diverse forms of wildlife (trees, fish nurseries, birds, and reptiles) to thrive. Mangroves also are studied and known to break down pollutants and play a large role in the capturing and storing of carbon.

Crocodile on the beachMexico is divided into 5 regions where mangroves can be found: the North Pacific, Central Pacific, South Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and the Yucatán Peninsula. The state of Jalisco located on the Central Pacific coast has had the greatest loss of mangroves with 8,098ha from 1970-1980 to 2,201ha by 2010, thus losing more than 70% of its territory.

In Banderas Nayarit Bay, there is an important extension of these mangroves located in front of our office in Punta de Mita leading to a special virgin beach “La Lancha”. Standing out in their size and beauty, these tropical trees house impressive exotic plant and animal life. Crocodiles, a common species found inhabiting this region, have lived here many years before this land was discovered. This is contrary to the idea that crocodiles were introduced to this area. Crocodiles utilize this area for all aspects of their life cycle including feeding, breeding, and rearing young.

Our friends from the Sanctuary of Crocodiles ‘El Cora’WildMex is an adventure company that cares about nature and the life it creates and sustains. Nature is our home and we take various actions to raise awareness of the care and responsibility necessary to protect it. It is our partnership to these ecosystems that allow us to enjoy and share its energy and purpose. WildMex ExcursionOn Thursday, August 15th 2019, a collaboration took place with friends from the Sanctuary of Crocodiles ‘El Cora’ who explained the importance of mangroves, their functions and benefits of its diversity, as well as focusing on the facts and myths concerning crocodiles to be able to better understand them. After the discussion, a tour was given where people were able to have a greater and more personal experience with the mangrove and its unique plant and animal wildlife species.

Sayulita massive beach cleaning!

June 10th , 300 Volunteers out to set an example

Today we are with Corona in the campaign Desplastifícate

Sayulita, Nay.

In the framework of the World Environment and Oceans days that are celebrated this month, Grupo Modelo will hold from June 1 to June 15 days focused on cleaning, restoring, conserving Mexico's water and cleaning its beaches.

The movement of Corona Desplastifícate began this Saturday, June 8, in partnership with Modelo Volunteers, in more than 25 beaches in Mexican territory. The brand works to become one of the greatest agents of change in the world by cleaning about 500 beaches in more than 23 countries, thanks to the support of 300,000 volunteers worldwide.

In collaboration with Corona, one of its global brands, they reinforce the environmental objective, cleaning 150 kilometers of beaches in 14 states of the country, hoping to remove more than 78,000 kilos of garbage and more than 2 tons of PET, impacting around 1.2 million meters squares of coast in Mexico.

In Sayulita, Nayarit, more than 300 volunteers were gathered, who helped this movement achieve two objectives: to help clean the beaches and raise awareness about the damage we are doing to the environment.

The day began at 7 am in Sayulita, where volunteers, including children, youth and adults, with gloves and sacks gathered to begin cleaning; once it was finished, there was a talk on environmental care and a series of recreational activities and workshops.

"It is a movement that we are creating, it is the largest in Mexico of protection of the oceans. We are a brand with a great commitment to Mexico. He was born more than five years ago; It started with cleaning days and we saw that we could make a much bigger difference: raise awareness, "said Clarissa Pantoja, Director of Corona Beer, to El Economista.

He stressed that one of the challenges of the movement is to raise awareness about the use of plastic not only on beaches but in cities, which adds to other actions such as recycling programs, the implementation of cups of corn starch in recent editions of the festival Corona Capital and the use of biodegradable rings for the six pack, which "seek to inspire more people to join and replicate this message in the world".

"Every time the goals are bigger. We are very happy because with this celebration of the World Environment Day we had more than 20,000 volunteers who registered, we have more than 65 activities throughout the country, it is a giant wave. we are focusing on water cleaning, conservation of these bodies of water and cleaning of beaches.
